I'm 18 years old and I'm taking a gap year next year before college. What are some good countries to travel to on your own? I'm planning on traveling for 5 months and going to multiple countries, any advice on where to go, how to get around, and where to stay?|||In my opinion each country has its advantages and disadvantages of traveling alone! You have to decide what you want to visit and experience! My advice is to take an Europe trip and to visit some of the best travel destinations such as Spain, France, Italy.. There are lots of things that can be seen and many things that can be done while being there. What's more the people are friendly and they are ready to help you at any time! about the hotel accommodation - you can use one of the websites that offer hotel accommodation all over the world such as http://www.expedia.com, http://www.booking.com and http://www.hitrooms.com. I have used all of them and I am very pleased with their service. Recently I have used the last one http://www.hitrooms.com. I prefer it because it is a book now and pay on arrival system. So you just make the booking in advance so that you can secure the room and pay for it as soon as you arrive in the hotel! It is quite convenient because meanwhile you can make any changes. What's more the prices they offer are quite reasonable as for me. So if you want you can check it out and make your decision! The sooner, the better!|||Malaysia. Most travelers comment on the friendliness and hospitality of Malaysians. It really is exceptional. Malaysia is not only friendly, it is one of the safest countries worldwide and absolutely safe to travel to any part bwteen the country.

Ireland
Australia
New Zealand
Japan (though I don't their state right now, after everything that's happened)
Iceland
Thailand
Canada
Honestly, that's just my list of places I want to travel.
It's never super safe to travel alone though. So, make sure you have a cell phone that will work internationally. Check in with friends and family frequently (several times a day). Stick to the safer areas of the country you travel to. Don't venture off to desolate areas. Make sure you research which areas are safe and which aren't.
You can stay in hotels, motels, hostels, or B%26amp;B's, just like you would on any other vacation. Getting around is different depending on what country you're in and what their transit system is like. It will vary greatly depending on where you are at and what is available, so no one can answer that for you.
Also, try to learn the basic language for anywhere you are traveling and keep a translation dictionary or app on hand. Show that you are making the effort to speak the native language, and people will respect you more.
Oh, and check on the customs for the countries you're visiting! Thailand has a lot of interesting customs and various behaviors that are considered rude, such as allowing your feet to point in someone's direction.
And don't show off the fact that you're an American (if you are), because we are disliked abroad.... often for good reason. Think rude, obnoxious, tourists in tight khaki shorts and hideous Hawaiian or "I'm with stupid" shirts.
Good luck, and have a great time.|||Singapore
