What is the best way to travel around australia?

So many choices! Contiki? Oz experience? Greyhound? To name just a few. I am starting in Sydney and plan to travel up the east coast then across to Uluru, alice spring and kings canyon. Then up to darwin before traveling down the west coast then across the south coast back to Sydney.|||The cheapest way would be by bus but get a ticket that allows you to break the journey anywhere you like. Driving yourself is not cheap. Petrol is about $1.30 a litre at the moment and it will be more expensive away from the cities. The route you have chosen will be about 20,000 km. petrol is going to cost between $1500 and $2500 depending on the car you are driving. You will need to take 4-6 weeks for the trip if you are going to see anything. Car hire will be $500+ a week so you are going to need $5000 - $6000 just for transport.





Don't stay in motels, stay in country pubs if you can. They can be remarkably cheap. They are basic but clean and you get to meet lots of locals. Pubs are also reasonably good places to eat although there are a few bad ones - but that applies to service stations too.





If you are driving yourself, carry at least ten litres of water. You can get a ten litre container of water in any supermarket. You probably won't need it but if you do, it's good to have it there.|||While the tour buses are nice, and they provide a great opportunity to meet other travelers, I prefer the "do it myself" route- rent a car. Driving in Australia is a pleasure. You can stop when and where you want, and you will meet a lot of great local people this way. Pub stays are inexpensive. The food and people are great. I think the driver was as out of place on this tour as we were. Again, there are a lot of choices, and I am sure our experience was not the way it always is. We only do self drive tours now, when we tour.|||I have traveled throughout Aus with Greyhound for 3 months. It wasn't bad but the trips from Darwin to Alice Springs/Alice to Adelaide both about 15hours, insanely long. At times the bus was full, made 1 or 2 am connections at truck stops(that happened only once), make sure you bring something warm on because sometimes the air con is on full blast and your freezing. There were times where I took the train or I flew. I bought a Greyhound kilometer pass.......estimate the amount of kilometers you will travel and pay a flat fee. Made a reservation a night or two in advance before I departed from each city. If you have a YHA card you get a discount. I thought it was a good deal. I stayed in hostels.......max I paid a night was about $27 Aus dollars a night. If I had to do it over again I wouldn't change a thing..........I will remember the people and the experiences getting from one destination to another. I am looking for the long-historical traditions in China for a long time. Should anyone give me some suggestions about where to go?|||You must start with Xi'An, the first capital of China and one of the oldest civilizations in the world. Visit the terra cotta warriors as was mentioned above, but also don't forget to stop off at Banpo Neolithic Village (usually you can get these two as a package - they are both a good drive outside the city). Banpo village is an excavation and recreation of a 6000 year old village where you can still see the remains of huts and fire pits. You can see how the ancients fired kilns for pottery. It is really cool if you are interested in early humans.





The city of Xi'An itself has many historical sites, like the city wall that you can bike around (14km trip, rent bike on top of wall) It is a really wide wall with guardhouses and replica weapons along the way. Also, there are signs that show you sites and tell you interesting tidbits along the way. I would recommend it. Also, don't miss the Bell Tower and Drum Tower, and the pagodas.





The next most important place to stop is Beijing. You will want to chek out Tiananmen Square (just the size of it is amazing) before paying a fee and exploring the Forbidden City. This place is extensive, so do not think that you will only spend a couple hours and see it all. If you do only want to spend a few hours instead of all day, I would suggest getting a map and figuring out which buildings/parts you want to see first, then walk in a planned way. The architecture is amazing and if history is your interest, it might be useful to rent the audio guide.





You will also want to see the Summer Palace and Temple of Heaven. Temple of Heaven is peaceful and very park-like, but make sure you get there early enough to see the sections you want before they start closing at 16:00. There is also a good museum in Beijing, but I did not get to see it. Oh, and i would also suggest the Great Wall - Mutianyu section has a cable car up and down.





I would say that these are the two must-see cities in China for history, but if you have time and funds, you may want to think about seeing Nanjing (previous capital), and Shanghai (great museum here) with a day triip to Suzhou (old city on the Yangtze).

The "done all the time" was probably in response to a misunderstanding. Consider the fact that you probably do not share a native language with the person you were talking to and it is in fact normal to charge extra for UNaccompanied minors.

I want to travel to Europe on my own. What city is traditionally the cheapest city to fly into?

I would think that it is cheaper to fly into The Netherlands or Luxembourg or Germany but those travel sites are exhausting trying out different times and dates. I'd like to start looking with a little foreknowledge on the arrival city. Can you help?|||europe is expensive in general bro.

First, you can check travelocity.com and click on their "dream maps" feature. This will then allow you to check the lowest fares to a region from your destination city for a set date range. You can then click through to find specific flights.





Rather than using a company such as hotwire or priceline where the tickets are non-changeable and non-refundable, I would also look at a travel agent that specializes in discount airfares (also known as a bucket shop) since they often have access to bulk airfares that may allow you to fly cheaper. If you are a students, companies such as STA travel also often have good student fares.





Safe travels!|||The closest European city to your departure should be the cheapest based on fuel costs but that is not always true. In the 60's and 70's it was cheapest to fly the national airline of Iceland and take a stopover in Reykjavik. You might want to let a travel agent do your hunting since day of departure also affects cost.|||Fly into London and take a train wherever you wanna go. London flights are cheaper than the rest of europe by hundreds of dollars!!!! and trains are so cheap and easy to use in Europe. I'd definately recommend doing that if possible.

How should I travel with Platies in the car?

I will be needing to travel in the car with my 2 platies for about 3 hours. I'm moving so I don't really have a choice about it. How should I do it so that they survive and also so that I don't get water all over my car. Also I'm assuming I'm going to have to empty the tank.|||The best way to transport them is they same way they come to the store where you bought them - in plastic bags.





Your fish store may be able to supply you with one, just fill it no more than 1/2 way with water and leave the rest air and tie off the top. If you can't get them from your fish store, I've used 1 gallon ziplock bags, but be aware these can leak. Double bag to be safe. I've then packed the fish into picnic coolers (I usually have quite a few fish to transport) but maybe one of the smaller styrofoam coolers would work for you. This not only collects the water if they leak, but insulates them from temperature changes. As long as the car is moving, the vibration will keep the water oxygenated.





As far as the tank, you will want to keep the gravel and filter media wet to prevent the beneficial bacteria from drying out. You can move all this into 5 gallon buckets with lids if you have a large tank, or just draw the water down so it's only just a little over the gravel and move the tank and all if it's a smaller one (I wouldn't try this for any tank over 20 gallon).





If you're moving in more than one trip, you can prepare some water the trip before you move the fish to have it on hand, otherwise, get the tank set up as soon as possible. Remember to acclimate the fish to the tank by floating their bag and doing partial water changes to ease their adjustment to any differences in the new water chemistry.





I've transported bagged fis this way myself for 5+ hour trips without losing any.|||if you go to one of your local petstores they will most likly be happy to give you a cupple of large fish bags. bag your fish, filling the bag about half full of water and half full of air, do not blow into the bag. then dubble bag them. they should be fine for the trip. as for the tank, drain all but enough water to just cover the gravel, but do not clean the gravel, then transport the tank, and set up at the new place
